In December last year, Taylor Swift’s lawyers apparently sent a letter warning Jack Sweeney over posting flight tracker information on her private jet on social media as it was “a life-or-death” situation for her.
The music star has dealt with many people stalking and harassing her in the years she has been in the spotlight, and it seems now is no different. The full cease and desist letter Taylor Swift‘s legal team sent to a university student named Jack Sweeney was allegedly leaked onto Reddit, and the 21-year-old later claimed it was the same letter he had received. Sweeney has tracked where the Blank Space singer’s planes across various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).

In the letter allegedly sent to Sweeney by Taylor Swift’s lawyers, they explain they will take further action if he doesn’t stop tracking her private jet. The Instagram version of the account, @taylorswiftjets has been taken down for “endangering her safety.”
In their letter, Sweeney was told, in part: “You have engaged in stalking and harassing behavior, including consistently publishing real-time and precise information about our Client’s location and future whereabouts to the public on social media. This conduct poses an imminent threat to the safety and well-being of our Client and must stop.
“While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client. Ms. Swift has dealt with stalkers and other individuals who wish her harm since she was a teenager.

“This reality has forced our Client to live her life in a constant state of fear for her personal safety. That fear is and has been significantly heightened due to your reckless actions.”
Sweeney has a history of tracking other celebrities’ planes also by using automated bots. He has tracked the likes of Kim Kardashian, Drake, and Elon Musk.
Musk took issue with Sweeney and also threatened legal action – Sweeney’s account to track Musk on X was suspended, but he opened a new one which now tracks the X owner on a 24-hour delay.
In his retort, Sweeney said: “One should reasonably expect that their jet will be tracked, whether or not I’m the one doing it, as it is public information after all.”
A spokesperson for the star told CBS News “the timing of stalkers” suggests a connection to Sweeney’s flight-tracking sites. They did not deny the letter was from her legal team.
Elon Musk told Sweeney to stop
Any account doxxing real-time location info of anyone will be suspended, as it is a physical safety violation. This includes posting links to sites with real-time location info.
Posting locations someone traveled to on a slightly delayed basis isn’t a safety problem, so is ok.

In a bid to stick to his commitment to free speech, Musk said he wouldn’t ban Sweeney’s X account, which tracked him similarly to Taylor, 34. However, the account was soon suspended.
It came around the same time in 2022 when Musk introduced a policy for the platform which meant users couldn’t post other’s locations even if they were not real-time.
Musk had previously offered Sweeney $5,000 to stop his antics but was turned down by the student, who was 20 at the time. He told the tech company giant it “wasn’t enough” for the amount of “work” he put into tracking famous faces.
