Meghan Markle 'eyes up new venture to rival $250m lifestyle brand' in shake-up

May 2024 · 3 minute read

Meghan Markle is reportedly stepping foot into the wellness industry with the revival of her lifestyle blog which was shut down in 2017.

Five years after Meghan Markle waved goodbye to her blog, The Tig, the Duchess Of Sussex may be relaunching her passion project once again – with a twist.

According to media reports, the royal is attempting to build a wellness brand through The Tig. It is said to have been inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, which is famous for its sold-out This Smells Like My Vagina candle.

Markle already leads her Archewell, an organization consisting of a charity and media production.

Meghan Markle filed The Tig patent in 2022

Initial reports of Meghan’s new venture circulated in March 2023 after claims that the Duchess received “official preliminary approval to revive the website”.

There is yet to be a confirmed launch date but it’s likely that Markle has been planning the move since at least 2022. United States Patent And Trademark Office records show Frim Fram Inc filed a patent on February 25, 2022.

Frim Fram Inc is the company that ran the site before its closure.

Documents show the official cursive logo of The Tig, and a description of the service: “Providing a website featuring non-downloadable articles, interviews, and photographs in the field of food, cooking, recipes, travel, relationships, fashion, style, lifestyle, the arts, culture, design, conscious living, and health and wellness.”

According to The Mirror, royal expert Tessa Dunlop said: “Meghan’s been hanging out with Gwyneth Paltrow and she’s shifted from acting into this broader wellness area. There’s speculation about a possible revamp of Instagram, about Meghan being a brand sponsor for wellness products perhaps.”

The Tig, which is named after the actress’ favorite red wine, Tignanello, previously uploaded wellness advice so the new alleged brand won’t be completely unfamiliar.

One of Markle’s last posts before the April 2017 shutdown was titled Winter Wellness Tips, which included a recipe for “Golden Milk” aka Turmeric Tea.

Why did Meghan Markle shut down The Tig?

There have been several rumors regarded to why the site was closed, including gossip that it was abandoned to minimize the level of media scrutiny ahead of her wedding in 2018.

However, since the Tig was shut down seven months before the engagement announcement, it is likely to be untrue. A source told People it was unrelated to Prince Harry.

They clarified it was to prioritize filming for Suits and her humanitarian work: “The Tig has been a labor of love for Meghan,“ the source explained. “But it’s a full-time job. She wants to focus this season of Suits, which just started filming, and spending more time in the field on her philanthropy.”

Markle’s thanked her readers in a heartfelt farewell message, reading:

“After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun, and frivolity. You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy.”
